Finally, the Apple tablet is here and its called the iPad. Leaving behind all the rumors and speculations, its time to get down to the official announcements by Steve Jobs at the apple event.
“It’s so much more intimate than a laptop, and it’s so much more capable than a smartphone.”, said Steve Jobs while introducing the iPad to the world. iPad is the device for browsing the web, reading books, listening to music, browsing photos and videos and playing games. Its 0.5” thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. There are 12 applications included in the iPad that are ment exclusively for the device. It can also run all the 140,000 applications available for the iPhone on the AppStore.
The specifications of the device are –

- Up to 10 hours battery backup and a month of standby
- 3.5-mm stereo headphone jack
iPad would be available in two versions – one with WiFi and the other with WiFi + 3G both. The WiFi version will be available worldwide in late March for a retail price of US$499 for the 16GB model, US$599 for the 32GB model, US$699 for the 64GB model. The WiFi + 3G version is expected to be available from April in selected countries and would be retailing at US$629 for the 16GB model, US$729 for the 32GB model and US$829 for the 64GB model.
